Ramadan Rawashda
Election Day, on the tenth of September, will not be like previous electoral rounds that have taken place in recent years. This time, the elections will have political sensibilities, and will be a test of the issue of political modernization, at the beginning of the year . the second century of the modern state of Jordan.
When His Majesty the King established the Royal Committee for Political Modernization, in the summer of 2021, he entrusted it with six tasks, including the development of two new laws for political parties and elections, and the task was completed with the agreement of all members. of the committee. Later, the nineteenth Parliament approved these two new laws, which are the same, and which, in my opinion, will be an important lever of modernization and serious reforms needed for the revival of the elite and the political life of Jordan.
The uniqueness of the current elections is a matter of interest, and that they are unprecedented, because they will give important importance to the decision-maker, the people, the study centers, and all the internal and external parties that monitor the internal situation of the Jordan. an indicator of the effectiveness of the political reform laws, and the extent to which public opinion and the Jordanian voter interact with them.
The elections will also be an indicator of the capacity of the new parties, especially those formed after the two laws were passed in the spring of 2022, to attract people and the extent of people’s convictions about the parties, their programmes, i.e. their election slogans , their leadership figures, and the candidates of their local and party lists.
The post-election period will be a real test of the winning parties’ ability to create strong parliamentary blocs with influence and the ability to monitor and legislate. Then, improve parliamentary work away from individualism and personality while working under the dome of Parliament.
The vote of the citizens, their convictions about the candidates and parties, and the voting percentage will be another indicator of an important question: Has the Jordanian state, along with all its institutions and bodies, provided enough for the citizen to contribute to real change , or not?
We are, therefore, facing a new stage, whose results and the nature of its path can only be assessed after testing the current 10 September, and reading the results of the elections in the light of the claims of political modernization, and i. in view of the validity of the choice of which the findings of the Royal Commission were one of the findings.
