The opposition speaks of a chaotic election but the Kinshasa government, through its spokesperson Patrick Muyaya, congratulated the Congolese people for their massive participation in the elections of December 20, 2023 which took place throughout the country. country.
“The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo congratulates the Congolese people for mobilizing to participate in the elections which are generally going well across the entire national territory,” we read in its press release. Also, the Government of the Republic welcomes the efforts and determination of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) to organize the elections on the date planned in its calendar. In view of the delay observed in the opening of certain polling stations, the government encouraged the electoral center to take measures to allow each Congolese to exercise their right to vote and to provide answers to some difficulties encountered.
The government urged the population to remain calm and not to rely on rumors spread on social networks with the aim of disrupting the electoral process. These elections are still continuing in several towns in North Kivu where the majority of voters did not vote during the first day due to the delay in starting operations.
Voters, witnesses and observers decided to spend the night at polling stations until the last voter had completed their civic duty. According to sources cross-checked in the cities and territories concerned by this electoral vote, in certain municipal centers the voters testified to having witnessed the closing of the polling stations and left with the minutes. For the others, the counting and voting continues.
