GOMA – A few days after the holding of elections in the DRC where several irregularities were recorded as well as exaggerated fraud, the Citizen Movement Struggle for Change (LUCHA) demands the “immediate resignation” of Denis Kadima as well as “legal proceedings” against the president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).

In a statement on the holding of elections in the DRC, young activists gathered within this citizen movement describe Mr. Kadima as “amateur and “incompetent” in the organization of the election on December 20. Since the start of the electoral process, LUCHA has not “stopped denouncing the strong dependence of the leaders of the electoral institutions on the power in place”.

For the good of the young democracy to be consolidated in the DRC, LUCHA demands “that a serious audit of the accounts of the CENI be carried out to determine the use of financing of the elections, the annulment by the Constitutional Court of the elections of December 20 if it is established that the irregularities, fraud and disorders recorded during the vote undermined the integrity of the elections in the electoral district concerned; urges political actors both in power and in the political opposition to express their electoral demands in non-violence, respect for the laws, rights and freedoms recognized to each citizen by the constitution”.

LUCHA asks the Congolese population to remain vigilant and mobilized both for the transparency of elections and for the general governance of the country, we read in this declaration.

The elections have already been criticized by several observers who believed that everything was not ready for the successful holding of this democratic meeting.
