MADRID, (Xinhua) – The President of the Government of Spain and candidate of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) for re-election, Pedro Sánchez, has started the electoral campaign for the country’s general elections, scheduled to be held on July 23.

Sánchez launched himself for re-election on Thursday night in a pavilion in the green Casa de Campo complex in Madrid, from where he asked for the “majority confidence” of the Spanish.

“Today that the electoral campaign begins I am going to give you a spoiler, we are going to win the elections on July 23 and 24, Spain will continue to be governed by the socialist party, we are going to be the first political force in Spain,” said Sánchez.

According to polls, the big favorite at the polls is the Popular Party (PP), although in recent months the far-right Vox formation has also gained a lot of support.

In the regional and municipal elections held on May 28, the PP won the majority of town halls and regional governments.

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has also already started his electoral campaign, but he did so in the town of Castelldefels in Barcelona (northeast Spain), together with the president of the Catalan Popular Party (PPC), Alejandro Fernández, and the mayor of the city, Manu Reyes.
