by times news cr

The Board of the High National Elections Commission decided to use electronic verification technology in the phase of distributing the voter card for the municipal council elections in 4 targeted municipalities (Esbia, Zliten, Barqan, and Al-Qubba), where the fingerprint and personal photo of each person who will receive his/her voter card will be taken and this data will be used to verify the identity of the voter on the election day, which will be determined later for the municipalities.

According to a statement issued by the Council on Monday, this comes within the framework of efforts to raise the electoral process to high levels of international standards recognized in implementing electoral processes, and in application of international principles issued regarding governance and consolidation of the rules for managing the electoral process in a way that gives its results more credibility and transparency.

This also comes in preparation for the presidential and parliamentary elections that will determine the future of this country and who will lead it from executive and legislative authorities towards stability and development, and out of the Commission’s keenness to ensure that these elections are managed with high levels of trust and credibility, according to the statement.

The statement stressed that protecting the voter’s voice is one of the priorities and responsibilities of the Commission, which will spare no effort in enhancing voter confidence in the electoral process it supervises, as trust is the basis and focus of its relationship with all those involved in the electoral process, including voters, candidates, observers, and partners.

The statement of the Commission Council indicated that the efforts made to establish the infrastructure for managing and implementing electoral processes that are characterized by a high level of efficiency and effectiveness will enhance the chances of success of any electoral process, no matter how bad the surrounding environment is. Moreover, spreading the culture of dealing with modern technology greatly helps in developing society and understanding the reality in which it lives, which leads to developing awareness among its citizens and enhancing their sense of belonging, and pushing them towards participating in decision-making through voting and choosing the best of those who are trustworthy to assume the burden of the trust.
