Only one model is “very good”: According to ADAC, the best electric cars

Even though the pace for electric cars has stopped, their development is making great strides. ADAC determines the best representatives of all classes in a comparison test.

The General German Automobile Club, for short ADAC, tests cars all year round. The club publishes the results regularly – and sorted by vehicle type. This gives you a quick list of which models testers think are the best in their class according to their requirements. Once the cars have passed the test, you will get three points for the position: the overall result and the points for the prices and the result evaluation of the relationship between price and performance.

During the tests, the cars are put through their paces. Testers consider driving performance, safety features, suitability for daily use, payload and many other parameters. When it comes to electric cars, factors such as size and charging speed also play an important role. The club publishes results on an ongoing basis. last was tables for light components Updated at the end of August.

Back in May, a result caused a stir – because for the first time a car managed to get an overall grade of “very good”. Testers for a VW ID.7 Pro 1.5.

The best electric cars in their class

But other manufacturers can also mark the points. When it comes to small cars, the Fiat 500e La Prima with a 42-kilowatt hour battery is currently in first place. The car achieved a grade of 2.4 mainly due to good driving, safe driving behavior and exemplary environmental properties. The deductions – and this does not come as a surprise – are significant in terms of pay and space.

This is apparently nothing of the kind in the next higher class, the smaller cars. The Hyundai Kona Electric leads the table there with a 65.4 kWh battery and Prime package. The car received a straight B in the test, showing weaknesses especially in interior materials and price – currently this is 45,340 euros.

In the small mid-range, Volvo leads with the XC40 Pure Electric Single Motor Extended Range Ultimate. The car received a grade of 1.7 for its great equipment, high safety level, strong performance and good driving.

When it comes to luxury cars, Porsche with Taycan Performance Plus and Mercedes with EQS 450+ are ranked. Both cars share a ratio of 1.6. Big prices may have stood in the way of the top level – both start at more than 100,000 euros.

Where is China and Tesla?

When it comes to manufacturers from the Far East, the group writes: “Even if no such model has been made to the top – electric vehicles made in China are becoming more successful than the standards in the ADAC test. An example would be the Nio with the high-quality models of the technology ET5, ET7 as well as the EL6 and EL7 or the Xpeng G9.”

ADAC assumes that “the fight for top positions and market shares will continue to increase.” Tesla can also feel this. The Tesla Model 3 is already in the middle class with grade 2, just like the Model Y. The luxury models S and X don’t even appear. If the electric pioneer does not come up with something soon, the competition will send more and more models into the race, making things more difficult for the famous cars from Musk.
