Electric vehicles are deprived of zero import duties

The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) at a meeting on October 29 will consider the issue of extending the zero duty on the import of electric vehicles until 2024, a source familiar with the agenda of the meeting told Vedomosti. According to him, the Russian side will oppose this initiative. The source of Vedomosti in the financial and economic block of the government confirmed this information. And decisions in the EEC are made only unanimously.

The consolidator of the position on behalf of Russia in the EEC is the Ministry of Economic Development. A representative of the department told Vedomosti that comments on this issue before the EEC meeting are premature. But a representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, whose position also has significant weight in deciding the issue of duties on the import of cars on electric traction, earlier in an interview with Vedomosti emphasized that zeroing the rate does not promote investment in the production of vehicles with a low carbon footprint and components for them. He also refused to comment on this issue on the eve of the EEC Council.
