Chennai: In Tamil Nadu, electricity tariff hike was implemented 3 days ago. Following this, electricity connection and service charges have also been hiked.
Tariffs vary in areas where electricity is supplied through poles and underground cables. Development charges, registration charges, connection charges, meter insurance charges have been increased. Accordingly, the new fare hike details are as follows:-
The old charge is indicated in brackets. Registration Fee-Rs.200 (Rs.100), Connection Fee-Rs.1000 (Rs.500), Meter Insurance-Rs.750 (Rs.600), Development Fee-Rs.2,800 (Rs.1400), Deposit Rs.300 (Rs.200), a total of Rs.5050 (Rs.2800) i.e. Rs.2 thousand 250 has been raised.
If you are getting a three-pronged power connection, you have to pay Rs.6600. The old fee was Rs.5,150. That means Rs 1,450 has been increased.
In areas where electricity is distributed through underground cables, the registration fee is Rs.200 (Rs.100), connection fee is Rs.1000 (Rs.500), meter insurance is Rs.750 (Rs.600), development fee is Rs.7000 (Rs. Rs.5000), a deposit of Rs.300 (Rs.200), making a total of Rs.9,250 to be paid. The old fee was Rs.6,400. That means Rs.2,850 has been increased.
The three-pronged power connection fee has been increased to Rs.9,600. The old fee is Rs.6,650. That means 2 thousand 950 rupees has been raised. A smart meter that calculates unmanned electricity consumption will soon be installed. Once the smart meter is installed, an additional Rs. 5,200 will be charged as meter deposit per end of the electricity connection.
An additional charge of Rs.7,100 will be charged if it is a three-pronged power connection. The fee for changing the name of electricity connection in the low voltage distribution area which includes houses has been increased from Rs.300 to Rs.600. The meter replacement fee has been increased from Rs.500 to Rs.1000 per end of electricity connection if the meter is damaged or burnt.
It has been increased from Rs.750 to Rs.1500 for three-pronged power connection. The fee for changing the name of power line in high voltage section has been increased from Rs.3 thousand to Rs.6 thousand. The fee for shifting a single-pronged electricity meter in good condition from one place to another has been increased from Rs.500 to Rs.1000 and for three-pronged connection from Rs.750 to Rs.1500.
The fee for replacement of burnt or repaired electricity meters has been increased from Rs.500 to Rs.1000 for single-pole connection and from Rs.750 to Rs.1500 for three-pole connection. The fee for temporary relocation of electricity connection has also been increased from Rs.300 to Rs.600. In total, the charges for all types of services handled by the Electricity Board have been doubled.
