Watan Al-Youm: The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity revealed that its country has not stopped exporting electricity to Jordan or Sudan despite the load shedding crisis that the country has witnessed in the past two months, as the total daily electricity exported to the two countries ranges between 150 and 180 megawatts.
The sources in the ministry added that the electricity exchange agreement cannot be violated and Egypt is committed to it without any changes despite the high value of dues. This matter is being consulted at the level of the political leadership in the country concerned, according to Al Borsa newspaper.
The capacity of the electrical interconnection project with Jordan is 550 megawatts, and the Jordanian-Egyptian Higher Committee had agreed to strengthen and increase the interconnection capacity, so that there would be greater integration between the Jordanian and Egyptian electric power sectors.
The total electricity exported to Sudan ranges between 60 and 80 megawatts per day, as work was supposed to be done to increase and strengthen the interconnection line, but due to the current conditions in Sudan, the work has not been completed, according to the sources.
She stated that the electrical interconnection projects are based primarily on the exchange of electricity, and if the Egyptian network needs electrical capabilities, it will actually obtain it, such as what is planned in the electrical interconnection project with Saudi Arabia “under implementation”, which has a capacity of 3 thousand megawatts. Most of the time, Egypt only exports electricity, and in the event of an increase in capacities and the entry of existing projects into implementation, and Egypt needs additional electrical capacities, it will obtain it.
She continued: “We can get power from the interconnection line if we have a peak period… and in return, we can send power to them if they have a peak time as well.”
Sudan produces about 3,000 megawatts of electricity, about half of which comes from dams on the Nile, and about half of the population is not covered by coverage. On the other hand, Egypt has large needs for food imports, the most important of which are meat, grains, and oils, and Sudan is one of the important markets for providing a portion of those needs, especially meat. live
