Electricity Prices Dip on Bulgarian Exchange

The Bulgarian Independent Energy Exchange (BNEB) saw electricity prices dip today, with the average price for tomorrow’s delivery settling at BGN 169.18 per megawatt hour (MWh) – down 26.39% from yesterday’s closing price.
The exchange closed yesterday at BGN 229.84/MWh. Prices for tomorrow’s delivery are expected to be cheaper across the board, with peak energy (9:00 AM – 8:00 PM) trading at BGN 103.86/MWh and off-peak energy (1:00 AM – 8:00 AM; 9:00 PM – 12:00 AM) at BGN 234.50/MWh.
The lowest price for tomorrow’s delivery was BGN 14.67/MWh, reached between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM, while the highest was BGN 364.14/MWh, recorded between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM.
A total of 77,529.60 MWh of electricity was traded on the exchange today.
Intraday Market
In the “Intraday” market segment, 3,814.00 MWh of electricity was traded with an average price of BGN 213.71/MWh.
Government Support for Consumers
The Bulgarian government announced a program to compensate non-domestic end customers of electricity. These compensations will be based on the difference between the actual average monthly exchange price for base load and a base price of BGN 180/MWh. The program is effective from July 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024.
