The total quantity of electrical energy produced benefits only 35% of urban residents while rural areas are only covered to 1%. Snel is very poorly managed. And yet, there is a board of directors, a chairman of the board of directors, general managers, directors… They are all driving along while the population suffers martyrdom.

Gaston Mutamba Permission

Marshal Mobutu created the Snel (National Electricity Company) in May 1970. To our misfortune, he decreed in July 1974 the dissolution of the four private companies producing electrical energy, namely Forces du Bas-Congo, Forces de l’Est, Sogefor and Regideso as well as the four commercial electricity distribution companies which were Comectric, Cogelin, Sogelec and Regideso. Snel took over their property, rights, obligations and activities. Hell and damnation! What was not supposed to happen, happened! Snel gradually transformed into SNOB (National Society of Obscurity). Stupor and tremors ! Electricity has become a rare product in our country coveted by all neighboring countries and China. According to my friend who knows everything, the total quantity of electrical energy produced benefits only 35% of the inhabitants of urban areas while the rural area is covered only to the extent of 1%. In all, less than 10% of the Congolese population has access to electricity compared to 40% in sub-Saharan Africa. And yet, the country is potentially rich in hydroelectric resources estimated at 100,000 MW (Megawatts). Saperlipopette! According to my friend who knows what’s going on in every nook and cranny of decrepit Kinshasa, when you call home, you should always start by asking if there is power or if the electricity has come back. Stupor and tremors ! Unable to satisfy demand, Snel practices electricity load shedding. It even happens that its offices are without electricity. Sapristi! Don’t they say that shoemakers are always the worst shod? Entire neighborhoods remain without electricity for several months. Citizens spend nights in the dark. This explains that, to avoid running out of smartphone battery, you must have a power bank. On rainy days, you have to know where you put your feet. As the electrical cables are laid on the ground, electrocutions are common. We risk losing our lives walking in the streets. At the slightest distraction, you are sent ad patres. To survive, some individuals, businesses and businesses resort to solar energy or very expensive, noisy and polluting generators. Snel is very poorly managed. And yet, there is a board of directors, a chairman of the board of directors, general managers, directors… They are all driving along while the population suffers martyrdom. As if that were not enough, they are full, plump, hairy, lippy, chubby, lippy, mamelus, belly, buttocks…. In the digital age, the company does not have an official website. It has been closed since a disgruntled customer hacked the company’s server in retaliation. Saperlipopette! To deal with the company’s negligence, it was decided, in June 2014, to end SNEL’s monopoly and open the market to independent electricity producers. Since then, there have been mini green networks of less than 10 MW and also some large projects that hope to fill the gaps. Due to the electricity deficit, we resort to charcoal for cooking. Which leads to deforestation. And yet trees are necessary to fight global warming and also for many other things. According to my know-it-all friend, trees are sometimes worshiped as deities. They communicate with each other. The oldest cherry tree in the world, called Takizakura, is almost 1,000 years old. He is revered in Japan. But the oldest tree is found in Chile. His name is Gran Abuelo. He is 5847 years old. Buddha was born and died under a tree. Yahweh appeared to Moses under a burning bush. Krishna died from an arrow that nailed him to a tree. Isaac Newton founded the theory of universal gravitation by observing an apple falling from a tree. Jesus Christ died on a wooden cross. There are also palaver trees… We say that dead goats do not fear the knife.
