Electricity rates increased in the state; 9 paise per unit for 4 months

Thiruvananthapuram: Electricity rates will increase for four months from February 1 to May 31 in the state. The Regulatory Commission has given permission to KSEB to charge nine paise more per unit as fuel surcharge.

Fuel surcharge is the additional cost charged to the consumers due to the increase in the price of fuel required to generate electricity in the state. KSEB has demanded that Rs 87 crore be charged in this way, which is an excessive cost to purchase electricity from April to June 2022.

The commission did not take a decision on the surcharge applications in the last two years. In June last year, it was increased by 25 paise per unit in general.

Along with this order, the Commission rejected the applications made by the Board to levy fuel surcharge in earlier periods. 18.10 crore from October to December 2021 and 16.05 crore from January to March 2022.
