Chennai: Following the electricity tariff, the new connection and service charges have been doubled.

The new electricity tariff hike has come into effect in Tamil Nadu from 10th. Also, electricity connection and service charges have also been hiked. New connection charges, meter insurance charges, development charges, registration charges have been hiked. These charges have been fixed and increased by double the areas where electricity is supplied through poles and underground cables.

Accordingly, in areas where electricity is distributed through poles, the meter insurance fee will be Rs.600 to Rs.750, connection fee from Rs.500 to Rs.1,000, registration fee from Rs.100 to Rs.200, development fee from Rs.1,400- From Rs.2,800, the deposit has been increased from Rs.200 to Rs.300.

Similarly, in areas where electricity is distributed through underground cables, the registration fee for one-way power connection will be Rs.100 to Rs.200, development fee from Rs.5 thousand to Rs.7 thousand, connection fee from Rs.500 to Rs.1,000, meter. The insurance fee has been increased from Rs.600 to Rs.750 and the deposit from Rs.200 to Rs.300.

Also, once a smart meter is installed, a meter deposit of Rs.5,200 will be charged for a single-pronged connection and Rs.7,100 for a three-pronged connection. The fee for changing the name of household electricity connection has been increased from Rs.300 to Rs.600, the fee for replacing a faulty meter has been increased from Rs.500 to Rs.1,000 for single-pronged electricity connection and from Rs.750 to Rs.1,500 for three-pronged electricity connection.

The fee for switching a single-pole connection meter from one place to another has been increased from Rs.500 to Rs.1,000 and for three-pole connection from Rs.750 to Rs.1,500.
