Electricity tax: Arrested with the owner of a website for electrical products that cost NIS 4 million

by time news

How long is detention worth tax evasion and what punishment will be imposed on him? Yehuda Makmel owns a website where he sells electrical products, called flymac.co.il. According to the Tax Authority’s suspicion, he raised revenue of about NIS 4 million and also made false entries in the business books for 6 years, between 2015-2020, shortly after he set up his website in 2014.

According to the Authority, as part of an activity carried out by an Assessing Officer investigating Jerusalem and the South in cooperation with the Tel Aviv Intelligence Headquarters and an Assessing Officer in Ramla, suspicion arose that Makmel was not reporting his full income. Following the suspicion, an open investigation was opened, during which searches were conducted and, through a court order, documents from Makmel were also seized, as well as documents from his representatives before the tax authority.

The website sells electrical appliances and electronics to Israelis, especially those purchased on the Amazon website in the UK.

The tax authority suspects that in order to reduce the tax liability in the draw, Makmel did not report the full sales made through the site and did not issue an invoice for the full amounts paid to it, and that he allegedly acted to transfer millions of shekels to a bank account abroad.

The court released him on restrictive conditions.
