With the participation of Counselors of the Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM), this Tuesday, the Local Executive Board of the INE in the capital presented the operation of the Electronic Ballot Boxes version 7.0 that will be installed in the 44 special spaces in the electoral journey on Sunday, June 2.

The Electronic Ballot Boxes will be able to receive votes for the elections for the Presidency of the Republic, federal councils and senators, as well as the votes for the elections for Head of Government, mayors and local councils.

At the meeting, the President of the IECM, Patricia Avendaño Durán, pointed out that “electronic ballot boxes represent the future of elections in Mexico City.” She highlighted the importance of citizens knowing how these ballot boxes work and the security measures they have to guarantee the secrecy of the citizen vote.

Avendaño Durán indicated that, with this demonstration, by the INE authorities, the people in charge of organizing the electoral processes will be able to learn in detail the operation of these devices, which, in addition, will be used for the voting of Mexican people from abroad.

Likewise, he explained that the migrant community abroad will not only have the possibility of voting for the positions of the Presidency of the Republic and senators, but they will also do so for the election to the Head of Government of Mexico City and for the Migrant Council.

Finally, he reiterated the relevance of knowing the operation of the Electronic Ballot Boxes and being able to discuss their characteristics, security measures, the format of the electronic ballots, the average voting time, the methods of counting and recounting votes, among other aspects.

For her part, the Presidential Councilor of the Local Council of the INE in Mexico City, María Luisa Flores Huerta, explained that the Electronic Ballot Boxes v.7.0 will facilitate the counting of votes, in an agile and simple way.

In addition, he spoke about the importance of bringing citizens closer to knowing how these devices work, which, he noted, were manufactured by hand with the labor of personnel from the National Electoral Institute.

Meanwhile, the Director of Statistics and Electoral Documentation of the INE, Daniel Eduardo Flores Góngora, presented the model and operation of the Electronic Ballot Boxes v.7.0 and said that it is an ambitious commitment by the national electoral body to explore new voting alternatives, which It has already had successful results in four electoral processes, at the local level.

He explained that derived from previous evaluations on the experience of using these devices in past elections, the polling station officials and citizens in general, as well as party representatives and electoral observers, reported that they are friendly and easy-to-use equipment, they reduce processing times. the casting of the vote and offer high levels of confidence, because they generate results free of human errors.
