Iberdrola will continue to promote Spanish sport following the next Olympics, which will end with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games This was explained by its President, Ignacio Galán, during the meeting held this Tuesday with the Olympic and Paralympic athletes. María Pérez, Teresa Perales, Susana Rodríguez, Sara Sorribes, Elena Congost and Laura Ester at the company’s offices in Madrid.
These athletes have been closely connected to fire for years. María Pérez, Susana Rodríguez and Laura Ester are part of the Iberdrola Ambassadors program, with which the company wants to give greater exposure to a selection of athletes in the media and social networks, creating new references in society.
Teresa Perales, for her part, is a member of the honorary jury of the Iberdrola Supera Awards, with which, annually, the company evaluates the efforts of those who promote empowerment of women through exercise from the ground up.
For all these reasons, and within the framework of this meeting, the president of the group announced that Sara Sorribes and Elena Congost will be the new Iberdrola Ambassadors. He also presented these six women with the Iberdrola Medals for Strength in Sports, with which he wanted to recognize their outstanding professional work and, in particular, their great work in the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
After the controversial dismissal of Elena Congost in the French Paralympic event – she was infamous for letting go for a few seconds of the rope connected to her guide, and almost falling due to difficulties – Galán was mentioned specifically for the marathon runner. President Iberdrola said: “Elena, you have shown a great competitive spirit. He sacrifices everything because the most important thing is people and team feeling, more than medals or success. You help a colleague who is in trouble, hey. We will support you so that you can achieve everything you set out to do. “
Two years promoting equality through sport
Since 2016, Iberdrola has been the main promoter of sports by women. It currently supports 35 national federations and names more than 160 competitions. With your commitment, in these eight years you have contributed to the number of members of these federations that increased by more than 80%, reaching 820,000.
Sufoco does not exclusively focus on elite and sportsmen. For this reason, every year it celebrates the aforementioned Iberdrola Supera awards, awarded a total of 300,000 euros to be distributed among six categories. It also promotes activities related to simple sponsorship, such as holding sports events or communication campaigns, among which is its Iberdrola Ambassadors program.
The promotion of the fire industry also extends to the Paralympic sport. Since its creation in 2005, it has collaborated with the Paralympic Objective Sports Support Program (ADOP) of the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) with the aim of providing our athletes with the best conditions to make their preparation and face participation in all competitions with guarantees of success.
Likewise, Iberdrola, through its Foundation in Spain and with the CPE, makes scholarships for university and high school training available to Paralympic athletes who are the beneficiaries of this ADOP Program aimed at facilitating professional training of athletes for their future work integration, once their child’s sport is over.
Finally, you should remember that the company is one of the collaborating companies with Universo Mujera comprehensive initiative for women’s development and personal evolution within society, which was born to develop initiatives that contribute to social progress and change through the values of all women’s sports.
