Elephants in Kerala for Gaja Puja to celebrate Tamil Nadu Minister’s son’s wedding

Chennai: Controversy brought elephants from Kerala to celebrate the marriage of Tamil Nadu minister’s son. The elephants were brought from Kottayam for the wedding of Registration Department Minister P Murthy’s son. The elephants Narayanankutty and Sadhu were brought to Madurai in the name of Gaja Puja.

Elephants were used to receive guests including the Chief Minister for the minister’s son’s wedding held on September 30. The allegation that crores of rupees were spent on marriage is still a new controversy. The incident came to light through information obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.

In the reply given by the forest department, it is said that permission was given to bring elephants from Kerala. But permission was given to participate in Gaja Puja. Elephants were brought to Madurai in the name of Gaja Puja as there is a ban on the participation of elephants in marriage ceremonies.

The owners of the elephants say that the elephants were taken for Gaja Puja in connection with the celebration of marriage. They also stated that the forest officials had checked the elephants and given them fitness certificates before taking them out of Kerala.
