RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) – Eletrobras (BVMF:) will disclose on July 12, at a meeting with investors about the company’s plans, a program with a zero carbon policy, said this Friday the company’s president, Wilson Ferreira Jr. , during an event in Rio de Janeiro.
Among the goals, the company plans to dispose of thermal power plants or decommission them after the end of their contracts. “It will be a process of reducing carbon emissions at Eletrobras”, said Ferreira Jr., to journalists, backstage at the Brazilian Forum of Leaders in Energy.
“Until the end of the contract, if there is anyone interested, we can move forward. But we are not going to continue.”
The executive has argued that he will prepare the company to be a protagonist in sustainable electricity generation.
According to Ferreira Jr., decarbonization is even important for attracting investments and highlighted that emissions can be a kind of barrier clause for funds and companies that want to bet on the generator.
“There are groups that are prevented from having a relationship due to the company’s profile… The ESG theme differentiates us for good or for bad”, he said.
