Eleven crew members on the International Space Station in August 2023 – NASA

MADRID, 29 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Eleven astronauts and cosmonauts from 5 countries currently live on board the International Space Station after the arrival of the Space X Crew-7 mission for NASA on Sunday, August 27.

As the new crewmates adjust to life in microgravity, another crew prepares for their departure this weekend, reports NASA.

The new four-member crew of the orbital outpost, which represents the United States, Denmark, Japan and Russia, arrived on Sunday aboard Space X’s Dragon Endurance spacecraft. NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Satoshi Furukawa and Roscosmos cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov are familiarizing themselves with the station’s security procedures and getting used to life in orbit.

The crew of Crew-7 are now serving as Expedition 69 flight engineers and will live and work 420 kilometers above Earth for the next six months. During Monday afternoon, the new crew members were joined by Roscosmos Station Commander Sergey Prokopyev. and Flight Engineer Sultan Alneyadi of the United Arab Emirates and reviewed the location of emergency hardware throughout the orbiting laboratory.

Another crew will return to Earth this weekend after beginning their mission to the space station in March. NASA astronaut Stephen Bowen, commander of SpaceX’s Dragon Endeavor spacecraft, will lead NASA pilot Woody Hoburg and Roscosmos mission specialists Alneyadi and Andrey Fedyaev as they complete their mission as Expedition 69 flight engineers. The quartet is scheduled to undock the Endeavor no earlier than Saturday, September 2, and splash down off the Florida coast.

The station’s two other crew members, NASA’s Frank Rubio and Russia’s Dmitri Petelin, spent Monday on a variety of orbital assignments. Rubio checked out a Dragon pressure suit on the Endeavor spacecraft with the help of Alneyadi. Petelin conducted photo inspections of the entire Roscosmos segment of the station, then concluded his day with a vision test and exercise.
