Eleven people are missing after the fire that destroyed a shelter where a group of young people with mental handicaps from the city of Nancy (north-eastern France). They were on vacation together with some monitors in the city of Wintzenheim (east).

Eleven people from the adult group originally from Nancy have not been found yetreported a statement from the Upper Rhine prefecture (government delegation).

The note adds that the fire started around 06:30 local time and spread rapidly, burning 300 of the 500 square meters of the building. The firefighters sent an important unit of 76 people, eleven vehicles and an emergency medical post, which was joined by forty gendarmes. The balance at the moment is that of one injured with a reserved prognosis and eleven missing.

The Minister of the Interior, Grald Darmanin, praised on X (Twitter) the quick and courageous intervention of the firefighters, despite which several victims would have to be lamented. The shelter is part of the ITEP public network, whose centers welcome young people, adolescents and young adults with mental or intellectual development problems.
