The leader of the Civic Coalition, Elisa Carrió, harshly attacked the government of Javier Milei and its adjustment policies that are falling on the backs of workers, retirees and the most neglected sectors.
In dialogue with Radio Miter, Carrió warned that the Government is carrying out “the biggest attack on the middle class in history” through transversal adjustment in the economy and warned about its possible consequences in the short term: “people are going to stop paying taxes, they are going to start selling and hiring under the table.”
Carrió also pointed out that Milei “is an enemy of the State, he does not want healthcare to be provided. Let’s take the case of dengue. The minister of health did nothing. He did not call the others, he did not warn. Only now did they realize it. The powers of health or education are concurrent, there were always councils of ministers, they met with provincial ministers.
“At all levels we are going to an adjustment in the State, to the disappearance of some State roles. Among the consequences there is talk of private and non-public streets; of private and non-public security. Basically, it is looking for a majority for go towards that idea, that utopia,” he added.
Carrió also charged against the agricultural producers. “They are not going to close the field, that is why they had to lower the price of inputs. I love those from the countryside, but they are so hard-headed, stubborn, sexist. They believed and now they have problems with corn, with wheat, the numbers are not close to the farmers. Milei had promised them the elimination of withholdings, and I told them that they can be lowered, but the first years cannot be eliminated. When you can’t reason it’s impossible. “Against illusion one cannot reason.”
And he stated: “There is a furious attack that aims at the disappearance of the middle class. (Milei) is a good actor and entertains people well. He is a great actor, he talks about the SUBE, or he fights with someone, but deep down there is what happens with the middle class. There are the electricity and gas bills; You see business closures and the one who falls does not start again. There is no V point, there is a very long U and there is no stabilization program with growth. “There is no model for SMEs: it is a SMEcide, because all costs and salaries go up, but you have a brutal recession.”
Carrió also denounced the cartelization of prepaid medicine companies and the excessive increases that laboratories are applying. “’Toto’ Caputo says, now I’m faced with prepaid. Gentlemen, face the laboratories, which grew 3200% and peak inflation in recent years. Why don’t they also discuss with the laboratories? The prepaid companies were cartelized and we reported it to Hernán Reyes. The truth is that medications are impossible.”
“We are facing the greatest attack on the middle classes and this is the Argentine identity. In history, I have not seen this attack and, furthermore, I have seen other adjustment programs like this, which ended in brutal recessions without being able to get out of that recession,” he stated.
And he warned: “I am seeing the drop in sales, how are jobs sustained? How are we going to create formal employment, if what we are going to have are people who are going to sell under the table, who are not going to pay taxes, “What are you going to sell in black and hire in black? Because you can’t.”
