Elisa improves the quality of voice services in Ida-Virumaa in preparation for the 3G shutdown

At the beginning of October this year, Elisa will begin implementing a major project to replace network equipment in Ida-Virumaa in order to further improve the overall quality of telecommunications services in the region, Elisa’s press service announced on Wednesday.

As part of the network upgrade in Ida-Viru County, Elisa will improve indoor and outdoor coverage for voice and mobile internet services. The overall experience of consuming communications services in the region will also improve significantly. Network modernization is also a prerequisite for the shutdown of Elisa’s 3G network, which will begin next year, and for the provision of VoLTE service to customers in Ida-Virumaa.

According to Elisa’s head of technology, Toomas Polli, the advanced VoLTE voice technology has a number of advantages that will allow Elisa’s customers to communicate even better over the phone. “The network equipment replacement project in this region is closely related to the phasing out of 3G services throughout Estonia. One of the necessary conditions for closing 3G services is the introduction of VoLTE capabilities, and we are now launching this project in Ida-Viru County,” said Polli. “Currently, Ida-Viru County is the only region in Estonia where a high-quality VoLTE voice service is not yet available, but by the end of the year this gap will be filled.”

Polley noted that the network equipment replacement project could lead to temporary interruptions in the consumption of telecommunications services. “We therefore ask customers to be understanding about this situation in the coming months. Of course, we will do everything possible to minimize disruption to the consumption of our services,” Polley added. “The ultimate goal of the project is to provide even better services, and the deployment of VoLTE in Ida-Virumaa is a significant step towards achieving this goal.”
