Even if they are still in conflict, the belligerents have decided to renew the dialogue. Tuesday May 16 and Wednesday May 17, Elisabeth Borne was to receive, in turn, the heads of the five main employee organizations. These bilateral meetings are a first since the start of the challenge to the pension reform – apart from an appointment, on April 5 in Matignon, with the inter-union, which had quickly turned into a fiasco.

If the head of government wishes to turn the page after the tensions linked to the decline to 64 years of the legal age of departure, her interlocutors intend to remind her that they have not abdicated, a fourteenth day mobilization against this age measure being scheduled for June 6. Feeling in a position of strength, the workers’ representatives also want to be demanding in the demands they will address to the Prime Minister. “Everything will be more expensive now”as stated by Laurent Berger, the general secretary of the CFDT.

To the exchanges scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday will be added others, within a few days, with the movements of employers – including the Medef. There is no detailed agenda. Mme Borne wanted to prove to her guests that she is “listening [de leurs] priorities »as she explains in an interview with Sunday newspaper of May 14. She nevertheless mentions a few themes: prevention of professional wear and tear, employment of seniors, retraining, universal time savings account – a campaign promise by Emmanuel Macron whose aim is to allow all employees to hoard days off in order to dispose of them freely during their career, etc.

« Plan de communication »

The approach is part of the “pact of life at work”, which the President of the Republic proposed, on April 17, to the unions and the employers. It is up to them to conclude national agreements or as close as possible to the field on “essential topics” – those mentioned by Mr.me Borne and a few others (remuneration, “wealth sharing”career paths, etc.).

Behind this outstretched hand towards the social partners, there is a « plan de communication » orchestrated by the Elysée and the most zealous supporters of the Head of State, mocks François Hommeril. But the leader of the CFE-CGC also believes in the “sincere desire” of the head of government and his team “to try to move on”. We must seize it, according to him, to “do not leave files fallow” that interest employees.
