Elitzur Ramla defeated Maccabi Ramat Gan this evening (Thursday) and advanced to the semifinals of the State Cup for women in basketball. Hapoel Rishon Lezion dismissed Elitzur Holon, A.S. Ramat Hasharon knocked out the cup holder Maccabi Girls Ashdod. Ha’Faul Lev Jerusalem beat Maccabi Haifa and joined the big four in the next stage.

The game between the two leaders of the Premier League promised a lot – and it is. The two teams that have not yet experienced a loss this season presented a game that was of high quality throughout, when neither team was able to escape and turn it into garbage time. After a tight first quarter, Ramla managed to escape twice to the double-digit gap zone, but Ramat Gan’s stubbornness, with important steals and baskets by Alice Khatokai, at the same time as Nofer Shalom’s three-pointers, brought her back to business at the break, to which she fell behind 42:35.

Hapoel Lev Jerusalem’s double-digit lead already at the start, turned into a very tight game in the second quarter, after Maccabi Phoenix Haifa managed to stop Alyssa Baron, prevent the Jerusalemites from scoring points and take advantage of Mia Nikolic’s great performance. The turnaround was completed in the last minute of the first half, when the visitors took the lead and finally went into the break tied 28:28.
The third quarter was offensive from both teams, who scored a combined 45 points. Haifa’s quintet players got into the rhythm, but even that didn’t help them against Jerusalem’s Baron and Kebada, who continued to control the pace in the fourth quarter and led Jerusalem to a 71:81 victory that was much more difficult than expected, but guarantees the newcomer from the capital a place in the semi-finals.
