The ninth round of the Athena Winner Women’s Basketball League was signed tonight (Monday) with a big surprise when the table lock, Elitzur Tel Aviv, defeated the doubles player Maccabi Ramat Gan 71:77. Maccabi Haifa recorded a huge 85:95 victory in Ramat Hasharon, Hapoel Rishon Lezion was at the top of the table with 72:86 over the Herzliya girls and Maccabi Ashdod defeated Hapoel Petah Tikva 67:79.
The main game of the cycle arranged a tremendous offensive display of the Greens from the Carmel. The opening was completely theirs. They played fast, team, were first for a rebound and finished their best quarter of the season with an 18:30 advantage over the host, who came in after five straight wins and had already plotted for second place. A local run towards the break bit the difference a bit but even that did not prevent a green advantage 41:54.
The third quarter opened with the same trend and a 2:10 run, but Ohad Gal’s team refused to give up, showed defensive abilities and reduced the difference until the last quarter came with a completely reasonable lag of 71:64. In the last quarter, Haifa also tightened its defense and this is what finally gave it a big 85:95 victory on a difficult field against an opponent for the title.

A week after Ramat Gan’s weak game against Ramat Hasharon, the doubles player reached a game that was marked as a must for her for the rest of the season. A 2:12 advantage in five minutes was supposed to develop an easy game for Ramat Gan, Of 18:14.In the second quarter the momentum was reversed.The champion was stopped on only 13 points and the host turned the game on the way to 31:35 at the break.
Daniela Reuven’s players, who only won once until tonight, also did well in the third quarter where they won 16:21 and opened a gap of 9 (47:56) towards the last quarter. Ramat Gan did everything in its power to get back into the game, but the host left a lot of soul on the floor, scored 21 points, was not frightened by the visitors’ comeback attempt and finally won 71:77.

The leader of the table did not start the game well, but recovered very quickly and already at the end of the first quarter took the lead with 13:19.
