This topless image was an important step for Page to “show authenticity” and “proudly present himself in his new identity”. Page himself describes the film on Instagram as a strongly personal film about love, family and identity. “There was no scripted dialogue, all scenes were completely improvised,” says Page. Waking up in a body that you feel good in
This freedom allowed Page to “connect more deeply with my role as a trans man,” and most importantly, authentically portray the challenges he knows so well.
“During the taping that day, when I got up and got dressed, it was kind of weird, like, ‘It would be great if he slept with his shirt off,'” Page said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “To show this guy waking up in his body and just feeling comfortable… that meant a lot to me. I never thought I would feel that way, so yeah, it was really nice to play that.”
The 36-year-old enthuses: “Doing something like this would have been almost impossible before.” This positive feeling thrilled him every day.
It’s the first time the viewer sees Page as his authentic self on the big screen. And that with his scars, which testify to what he fought for for years in order to be able to show himself so proud and satisfied as a man today.
