Elodie, the rights and freedom of the body: “Having a sexuality is not a sin”

by time news

From the use of the body by women, to the concept of freedom up to the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni. These are the themes touched upon by Elodie in the interview given to Repubblica directly from Miami, where she is posing for the new edition of the Pirelli Calendar titled “Refresh and Renewal”. The 34-year-old Roman singer is in fact one of the 12 protagonists chosen by photographer James Ethan Green for “The Cal 2025”, whose shots will be unveiled in November in London. This year’s theme is entirely dedicated to sensualitya return of the nude, but above all a return of bodies, whatever their gender.

Elodie and the body as a manifesto of freedom: “It’s mine, I do what I want”

Elodie explained the reasons that led her to accept, underlining once again, as she had already done on other occasions, how the women’s body is too often controlled: “The body – said the singer – represents a fundamental part of the way we tell ourselves and recover the freedom to be sensual”. Not only that, Elodie also responded to those who accuse her of using her body to achieve fame: “I have been accused, they accuse me, they will accuse me… It doesn’t worry me. There are other problems, the real ones. I like myself and the body helps me tell something about myself. I don’t think that having a sexuality is a sin, I’m not Catholic, baptized, I want to stay away from this way of thinking”.

The Roman pop star then addressed the extremely current issue of how women are not free to use their own bodies: “If we move to the right, looking at Italy, women are not even free to walk as they want. This is decided by other men, and it makes us understand how scabrous femininity still is. Being a woman is rough. So there is control over the body, today more than ever. They accuse me of sexualizing and it makes me laugh: I would like to ask what it means. The point is precisely this: the more someone is accused for the use of their freedom of expression, the more it means that they are leading a just fight”.

There was also no shortage of references to the Meloni government. Elodie has always spoken out in the past on civil battles, on rights, on the Lgbtqia+ world (she was godmother to the 2022 edition of the Rome Pride) and she did so by attacking, without mincing words, racists, sexists and homophobes: “The problem of the acquired rights, but threatened. By attacking gays, or abortion, you attack freedom. What hurts me the most is that a woman does it. How can she not realize that she is working for the interests of men? It is an unforgivable attitude. You cannot touch the freedom of choice. Ours is a democratic country, we should always remember that. If we want to do something else… I have no sympathy for this government, because for me freedom is synonymous with happiness”.

And on the consensus of the Meloni government: “There is fear when you don’t understand the real problem. When people see public figures shouting, understandably I agree with them. I know it because it’s my language, I know it well. It’s confusion. It’s fear: making yourself heard, because you’re terrified. But if on the other side you see someone who speaks like you, you think you’re understood.”
