JUSTICE – The social network X will sue NGOs funded by American billionaire George Soros for allegedly trying to stifle freedom of expression.

X (formerly Twitter) CEO Elon Musk dropped a bombshell on the evening of August 23: he confirmed that his social media empire was going “take legal action” pour “end” to an alleged attempt to suppress free speech by politicians and NGOs funded by George Soros.

These non-governmental organizations would have disseminated false data on the number of“hate incidents” in the British Isles, Ireland and Scotland, with the aim of favoring in return the establishment of a system of censorship.

“I can’t wait for the procedure to begin”tweeted Elon Musk, without the billionaire giving further details, which led social networks and the media to speculate on the exact nature of the case.

Inflated statistics in view of a new law

Elon Musk’s post responds to the reaction of freelance journalist Michael Shellenberg (who participated in the Twitter Files revelations) to an article written by one of his colleagues, the Irishman Ben Scallan.

The latter has indeed published on his Substack account (an American platform for digital publications, editor’s note) entitled Publicrevelations that accuse the Irish and Scottish authorities of inflating statistics on “hate crimes”, in order to adopt a new law on “hate speech”.

This law would make it a criminal offense to possess “hate material” on oneself or at one’s home. People who refuse to hand over the passwords of their digital devices to the authorities could face a prison sentence of up to one year and a fine of 5,000 euros.

The article in question asserts that the NGOs, supported by theOpen Society Foundations (OSF) of Soros, promote a “censorship program” in Ireland and Scotland, including detailing such police searches of private residences and personal devices.

Although the sources of Ben Scallan’s article do not identify which Soros-funded NGOs are involved in this alleged censorship campaign, it raises questions about the accuracy of the reports produced about the hate crime numbers. .

Scallan also indicates that the increase in the number of reported incidents does not necessarily mean an actual increase in these crimes. The journalist points out that the threshold for qualifying an act as a “hate crime” is low and that it often requires only a minimum of evidence, beyond the assertion of an individual.

Billionaire George Soros’ foundation leaves the EU

L’Open Society Fondations spends about $1.5 billion a year on various causes, including global initiatives aimed, according to the NGO, at defending human rights and advancing democratic principles.

At present, the NGO has decided to cut its budget in the European Union (EU), believing that several Member States devote enough money to the promotion of human rights, freedom and social diversity.

SWF resources allocated to the EU will be spent in other parts of the world from next year.

According to some observers of NGO philanthropic activity, these regions could be Africa and Asia, in order to counterbalance the presence of Russia and China, while Europe is already in the Anglo-American orbit. . An influence that would be capable of initiating regime change on the African or Asian continent and that would illustrate a form of soft power.
