Elon Musk announces that X (Twitter) will stop monetizing posts with misinformation

X (former Twitter) has announced that will allow publications with misinformation to be monetized that have been corrected by other users through the Community Notes, in order to discourage sensationalist content on the platform.

The company rolled out Community Notes late last year with the goal of combat misinformation on the social network and add context to potentially misleading information. These notes are displayed publicly if enough contributors with different points of view rate them as useful.

At the moment Community Notes can be added to both posts and images -option available since last May- and in videos -since last September-.

Now, the owner of the social network, Elon Musk, has reported that he has introduced “a slight change” in creator monetization, since posts that are corrected by Community Notes “are no longer eligible to receive revenue sharing.”

This is what the tycoon has shared in a publication in X, where he has indicated that “the idea is to maximize the incentive for accuracy over sensationalism” on the platform.

That is, posts that are corrected by contributors through Community Notes for including false or misleading information, They will no longer be eligible to receive income.

However, Musk has also detailed that any attempt to turn the Community Notes tool into “a weapon to demonetize people” will be “obvious” behavior that can be identified since, as he explained, all code and data “are open source.”

With all this, the owner of X continues to implement measures to combat the dissemination of sensational information, as well as, avoid promoting misinformation on the platform.

In mid-October it also implemented new requirements for Community Notes which, from now on, must include verified sources to have more options to be published on the platform.
