For him, “it’s the straw that breaks the camel’s back.” Elon Musk announced Tuesday on X (formerly Twitter) that he will move the headquarters of SpaceX and California.

“This is the straw that broke the camel’s back,” the billionaire wrote, justifying his decision with this issue “and many others that preceded it” and which “hit families and businesses”. “I’m tired of getting rid of violent gangs to get in and out of the house,” he added in a second message announcing the move of X headquarters.

“Protect the children”

A new California law prohibits school officials from disclosing information about a student’s sexual orientation or gender identity to anyone, including parents, without their prior consent. The provision was intended, according to its supporters, to protect LGBTQ students.

“I made it clear to Governor (of California) Newsom a year ago that laws of this nature will force families and businesses to leave California to protect their children,” Elon Musk, himself the father of transgender girl, with whom she is in conflict.

The entrepreneur said that the SpaceX company will move from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, the company’s industrial complex near Brownsville, in the southeast of Texas. X will move to Austin, in the same state.

Elon Musk has had complicated relations with California for years, one of the most progressive states in the country and home to Silicon Valley. It has already been announced in 2021 the transfer of Tesla’s headquarters to Texas, after the conflict linked to the health laws imposed in California during the Covid-19 pandemic, which it considers too strict.
