American businessman and billionaire Elon Musk criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s statement about unrest in the country on his page on the social network X, Day.Az reports, citing Gazeta.ru.
Starmer said that what was happening in Britain was not protests but ordinary violence, adding that the government would not tolerate attacks on mosques and Muslim communities.
Musk responded under the prime minister’s social media post, “Shouldn’t you be concerned about attacks on all communities?”
Mass anti-immigrant protests and riots erupted in the UK in late July following a knife attack on a children’s dance studio in Southport. Nine children were injured, three of whom tragically died. The attacker was arrested and charged, but the police clarified the attack was not terrorism-related.
Unconfirmed reports then spread that the suspect was a refugee, sparking riots in Southport, London, and other cities. Supporters of the far-right English Defence League clashed with police, and the unrest later spread across the country.
According to the latest data, approximately 400 people have been detained in connection with the riots.
