Tesla owner Elon Musk compared Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Hitler because of the Canadian prime minister’s decision to punish those who funded the truck drivers’ protest, adding that “Trudeau was less talented than the Nazis,” leading to criticism from Jewish groups.
On Thursday, Musk responded to a tweet reporting that Canadian authorities have ordered financial institutions not to do business with agencies that inject money into truck drivers, protesting Canada’s vaccination policies that have caused cities and transportation routes to become congested.
Musk’s response was a meme of a picture of Hitler with the text: “Stop comparing me to Justin Trudeau, I had a budget.”
“Elon Musk exercised very poor judgment when comparing to Hitler on social media,” the American Jewish Committee said in a tweet later that day. “Comparing Justin Trudeau to the dictator who murdered millions is not an appropriate way to criticize policy. He must apologize immediately.”
In a statement sent to the JTA Jewish News Agency, Jonathan Greenblatt, director general of the Anti-Defamation League, said, “As we have said many times before, false comparisons of public leaders to Hitler are offensive and offensive and only serve to trivialize World War II and Holocaust history. “Elon Musk’s tweet comparing Prime Minister Trudeau to Hitler has no place in the civil discourse. We urge him to take it down immediately and apologize.” Musk later deleted the tweet.
