The billionaire wants to release these nicknames for other users and newcomers.

Nothing stops Elon Musk’s big cleaning at Twitter. After laying off half of the group’s workforce and falling out with many personalities who he wants to charge for authentication, the whimsical billionaire now intends to remove unused profiles. “Twitter will soon start freeing up profile space for 1.5 billion accounts“, he tweeted Friday, December 9.

The aim is to give new users of the social network the possibility of using these names. “This removal is a no-brainer for those accounts that haven’t tweeted and logged in for years.“, justified Elon Musk in a new message.

Make Twitter Profitable

Since his arrival, the billionaire has been trying to make the social network more profitable. A new subscription at eight dollars per month has thus emerged: Blue Verified, mixes an existing paid formula (to benefit from practical advantages) and the authentication of accounts, until now free and reserved for personalities and organizations.

Problem, its initial deployment on November 9 was accompanied by an avalanche of fake accounts posing in particular as athletes, companies and Elon Musk himself. He was suspended after two days.
