Elon Musk’s Associates Plan to Launch New School in Austin, Texas
According to recently released tax documents, associates of billionaire Elon Musk are planning to launch a new elementary and high school, with the eventual goal of establishing a university in Austin, Texas. The project will be funded with a donation of nearly $100 million from Musk himself.
This initiative suggests that Musk may be seeking to expand his influence beyond the companies he owns and runs, as well as his involvement in artificial intelligence development and ties to world leaders.
The move also comes in the wake of recent anti-Semitism scandals in universities and the perceived shortcomings of the American education system.
Members of Musk’s inner circle are at the helm of this venture, including Jared Birchell, who runs Musk’s family office and is also a director of the Musk Foundation, Musk’s charitable organization.
“The school is designed to meet the educational needs of those with proven academic and scientific potential, who will thrive in a rigorous project-based curriculum,” the official document outlined.
Bloomberg also reported that Musk’s aim is to eventually expand the school’s scope to include a university dedicated to education at the highest levels.
The latest development coincides with Austin’s emergence as a growing center for alternative education. Notably, the city is home to the flagship campus of the University of Texas at Austin and a startup university called Austin University.
Elon Musk moved to Austin from California in 2020, and, a year later, relocated Tesla’s headquarters too. In the past, Musk was involved in the establishment of the Ad-Astra school at SpaceX’s headquarters in California to provide education for his young children and those of other employees.
Moreover, Musk had previously hinted at the possibility of establishing a new university in 2021 when he tweeted about considering the creation of the “Texas Institute of Technology and Science.”
As Musk’s circle now gears up for the ambitious educational venture, the billionaire tech entrepreneur seems poised to make an indelible impact in the world of education.
