Former Twitter employees sued Elon Musk in a US court on Wednesday after he fired them and, according to the lawsuit, compensated us. The sum that the plaintiffs are asking for reaches $500 million dollars, which, according to what they explained to the international media, was the fair value that they should have been paid.

The complaint has been led by Courtney McMillan, one of the people who has been in charge of the human resources area for the longest time, who told media such as EFE that the dismissed employees filed their appeal before a court in San Francisco, California, in which argue that Twitter after the dismissal of approximately 6,000 workers, after Musk acquired the company, did not pay the economic compensation to which they were entitled under the compensation plan that the platform has.

According to McMillan, the policy establishes that when a layoff occurs, the former employee must receive two months’ salary plus one week for each year worked, and in some cases, they were entitled to other benefits based on the rank of their position.

However, the lawsuit points out that in the best of cases there were employees who received at most one month of compensation, but there are others who did not even that, for which reason those affected accuse Twitter and Musk of violating federal regulations on the responsibility that has with workers’ compensation payments.

But this would not be the first time that a former employee sues the platform, after the businessman became its owner. This already faces similar requests, for breach of contracts to employees who have already been removed from the company, also violating US laws in this way.

And although McMillan did not specify the number of victims, the legal action they have taken, if successful, would amount to precisely $500 million dollars at least.

All these staff cuts have been part of the restructuring of the social network after Elon Musk bought it. In total, it is estimated that the company went from having 7,500 employees to 1,300.
