Elvira Oeberg is closing the gap with Julia Simon in the general classification and is only 31 points behind.

Sweden’s Elvira Oeberg, impeccable in shooting, scored the sprint-pursuit double in Pokljuka (Slovenia) and is getting closer to Julia Simon, third in the pursuit on Saturday, in the general classification of the Biathlon World Cup.

Already victorious in the sprint two days earlier, Oeberg left her opponents no chance on Saturday: with a 20 out of 20 in shooting, she won 17 seconds 6/10ths ahead of the Italian Dorothea Wierer, a fault on the shooting range, and 22 sec 4/10e on Simon, two missed targets, one lying and one standing.

In the general classification, Simon remains in the lead, with 606 points, but Oeberg reduces the gap which separates her from the Frenchwoman to 31 points, with 575 points.

The Scandinavian is ahead of the number of individual victories this season, with three against two for Simon. However, the French climbed for the seventh time this winter on the podium in ten individual races.

For her first stage of the Winter World Cup, after missing the first part of the season, in poor form, the Norwegian Marte Olsbu Roeiseland ranked eighth, with a 19 out of 20 shooting, at 51 seconds. She finished 16th in the sprint on Thursday with a fault.

The next women’s individual races are scheduled for next week in Ruhpolding (Germany), with an individual 15 km and a mass start. Two mixed relays are scheduled for Sunday on the Slovenian site.
