eMAG Targets 1.04 Billion Lei in Sales for Black Friday 2026

Shoppers across Romania are preparing for a streamlined and earlier start to the nation’s biggest shopping event of the year. Company officials revealed that Black Friday 2026 marks the 16th edition for the platform, which has shifted its calendar to the first Friday of November for the earliest campaign in its history. Beyond traditional electronics, the platform’s inventory spans unconventional luxury offerings and daily essentials as consumer spending habits shift toward high-value household upgrades.

Record Sales Targets and Expanded Product Inventories

Chief Executive Officer Tudor Manea noted that romanian consumers held back spending during parts of the year, creating pent-up demand that traditionally breaks loose during November promotional windows. The platform anticipates processing more than 500,000 items from its warehouses within the first 24 hours.

The massive stock allocation features 100,000 televisions, 700,000 small appliances, 400,000 smartphones and gadgets, and 150,000 laptops. Alongside core technology, the catalogue includes niche luxury items such as 100 private jet flight packages, 25 kilograms of gold, 138 kilograms of silver, and voucher discounts covering over 500 cars from 19 different brands, alongside 117 tons of pork and cold cuts.

Since then, the platform ecosystem has expanded significantly, with marketplace partners reaching approximately 64,000 companies, marking a 10% increase compared to the previous year. For the 2026 edition, the platform is introducing mystery boxes for the first time, featuring thousands of surprise boxes whose combined contents hold a higher value than the purchase price paid by the customer. Tudor Manea explained that the value of the primary surprise item revealed on Black Friday closely matches the cost of the box itself, meaning the additional 3 to 4 items included inside come virtually free.

The product selection also features thousands of veterinary medical service packages with discounts reaching up to 67%, alongside thousands of book access rights through Voxa. Deliveries are scheduled to begin immediately on November 6, with fulfillment operations backed by the Fulfilment by eMAG program.

Consumer Budgets and Shifting Payment Habits

Independent market data shows that shoppers are entering the retail rush with higher financial targets despite broader economic pressures, though alternate surveys depict a more austere outlook. Research conducted by PayU Romania indicates that the average estimated budget reaches approximately 1,200 lei, and eMAG’s internal Kantar figures point to an average planned budget of 3,600 lei. In contrast, polling commissioned by tbi bank reveals that nearly 63% of consumers intend to allocate smaller sums than last year, with 34% cutting their budgets by at least half due to worsening household financial perceptions.

According to the PayU study conducted by Reveal Marketing Research in October 2026 across 1,005 respondents, intent to buy remains highest among individuals aged 20 to 29 at 79%, those aged 30 to 39 at 76%, and high-income earners with monthly revenues exceeding 8,000 lei at 78%. Survey breakdowns show that individuals earning over 8,000 lei plan to spend more than 1,500 lei, which is more than double the planned budget of individuals earning under 3,000 lei who intend to spend slightly over 700 lei. Pragmatic shopping behaviors dominate the landscape: 34% of consumers use the event to acquire items they already intended to purchase, while 33% buy holiday gifts. Financing choices also vary by demographic, with digital wallets proving more popular among younger shoppers aged 20 to 29 at 12% compared to an 8% average across the entire sample.

Parallel data from a tbi bank survey conducted via iVox with 1,110 internet users indicates that 43% of respondents intend to rely on current salaries or wages, while 38% will tap into personal savings, and over 11% plan to utilize credit cards or personal loans. About 45% of surveyed individuals stated they would buy a desired item if zero-interest installment plans were available, while 32% would avoid installment financing under any circumstances. Teodora Șaguna, Head of Shopping Mall Tribe at tbi bank, noted that prudence defines consumer choices, with the institution forecasting a 35% increase in order volumes compared to the prior year. Consumer trust in artificial intelligence recommendations stands at 51% overall and reaches 60% among young adults aged 20 to 29, though only 30% feel comfortable delegating payment execution to an AI agent.

Digital adoption continues to reshape transactions. Furthermore, artificial intelligence tools are playing an active role in consumer research, with 67% of respondents using AI occasionally to compare prices and vet offers before the sales launch.

Logistics, Delivery Timelines, and Broader Market Participation

With thousands of marketplace vendors participating, fulfillment capacity remains the critical test of the operation. Management has committed to completing all deliveries by November 21, 2026.

Monitoring data compiled by BlackFriday.ro tracks more than 250 participating merchants running campaigns across a 50-day window from October 19 through December 7 based on data gathered up to October 31, 2026. While major players like Fashion Days launched discounts on November 1 with up to 90% reductions across over a million items, and Dedeman scheduled its sales event from November 6 to November 15 with discounts reaching up to 45% across 65 physical stores and online channels, only about 34% of tracked retailers initiate their primary campaigns directly on November 6, even though 84% maintain active promotional campaigns during that day.
