- The fire in the factory hall in Berlin-Lichterfelde has basically been extinguished
- However, glutesters continue to appear, which is why the fire department is still on duty
- The demolition of the destroyed hall will probably not begin until Monday
- Possibly contaminated extinguishing water entered allotment gardens
- Soil samples should now clarify whether the water is dangerous
However, the danger has not yet been completely averted: there are still individual embers on the site that are being monitored by the fire department. But there is no longer any smoke, says Erbe. And there are no longer any dangerous substances in the air.
A fire brigade spokesman told rbb on Sunday afternoon that fire brigades would drive by there again every two hours and look for possible embers. According to the fire department spokesman, further clean-up work on the site by a demolition company will probably not begin on Sunday.
Extinguishing water flowed into the collecting basin
During the operation, extinguishing water flowed from the collecting basins into an allotment garden colony, fire department spokesman Erbe said on Saturday. This is now blocked. The environmental agency will take soil samples. Otherwise, no extinguishing water flowed into the Zehlendorf branch canal. In principle, it is advisable to only remove soot residues and the like with gloves. In total, the fire department had been on duty with more than 300 people since Friday morning.
According to a spokesman for Diehl Metall, to which the factory that caught fire belongs, the fire was limited to one hall. Thanks to the fire department, the fire did not spread. It is still unclear why there was a fire in the metal technology company. According to the spokesman, the investigation into the cause of the fire should begin on Saturday. The police did not want to comment on the investigation on Saturday.
