An extraordinary Christmas gift is expected to be received by our economically weaker fellow citizens at the end of the year, in a repetition of the corresponding benefit that was granted in Christmas 2022.

According to the “MEGA weekend”, the emergency allowance of 250 euros was received last year before Christmas by approximately one million pensioners, 174,000 beneficiaries of OPECA disability allowance, as well as 36,000 uninsured senior citizens.

For this year, the emergency aid of 250 euros is being considered for:

800,000 families with children 205,000 beneficiaries of the Minimum Guaranteed Income 182,000 people with disabilities 100,000 long-term unemployed (non-subsidized)

The publication of Vima

According to a publication by Vimas, at the Ministry of National Economy and Finance they have taken paper and pencil and put down all the data in order to secure those funds to give at least one emergency aid before the end of 2023 to certain categories of citizens who have it need, while at the moment they are not even discussing the case of extending the market pass to everyone for the last two months of the year.

Also, it will be decided at the last minute – if and when this extraordinary aid is given – to include the low pensioners, regardless of whether or not they receive the personal difference allowance.

It is reminded that a personal difference allowance will be received by those with a pension of up to 1,600 euros and a personal difference of more than 10 euros. The allowance is divided into three categories depending on the amount of the pension and is 100 euros for the sum of main pensions from 1,100 to 1,600 euros, 150 euros for pensions from 700 to 1,100 euros and 200 euros for main pensions up to 700 euros.

The precision check

As for the accuracy check that the government is considering giving to vulnerable people, it is expected to amount to 250 euros and will mainly concern the long-term unemployed, people with disabilities, families with children who receive the family allowance as well as those who collect on a monthly basis the Minimum Guaranteed Income.

If a decision is made to give it to low pensioners as well, the criteria will be the same as those of previous years, and specifically it will concern approximately 1,200,000 beneficiaries with a monthly pension of up to 800 euros for singles and an annual individual income of 9,600 euros and up to 16,800 euros annual family income for married couples, with the average pension of each of the two spouses being up to 700 euros.

The property value limit is 300,000 euros objective value.

For the 100,000 long-term unemployed (non-subsidized) with registered unemployment at the OAED from 12 to 24 months, the last time they were given emergency aid of 250 euros, the following income criteria were established: up to 9,600 euros for singles and up to 16,800 euros for married. However, the final decision on any accuracy check will be taken by the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself.
