Morocco is represented at this meeting by a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and including in particular, the Ambassador of Morocco to Egypt and permanent representative of the Kingdom to the League of Arab States, Ahmed Tazi, as well as the deputy permanent representative of Morocco to the League, Hicham Ould Sallay.

The meeting, which is taking place in three sessions, will discuss the developments in the situation in Sudan, the position on Syria and its return to occupy its seat in the Arab League, as well as the latest developments in the Palestinian cause.

In a speech delivered at the special session on the Syrian issue, Sameh Shoukry, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of this session of the Council, stressed the importance of Arab contributions in formulating solutions to the crises in the region.

He called for solidarity to overcome challenges and harness Arab leadership to resolve problems in order to preserve common interests, far from international and regional complications.

In addition, the Egyptian minister expressed his regret over the continuing suffering of the Syrian people due to the failure to reach a political settlement to the crisis that has been raging in that country for years, the multiplicity of external interventions and the divergence of international agreements.

This, he continued, resulted in a state of total stagnation that lasted for years, regretting that the fate of Syria is now linked to alignments on the international scene and that the Syrian people have become hostage to terrorist groups installed by countries and organizations with political designs.

If the Arab countries assume their responsibility to advance the political solution to the crisis in the context of the current international impasse, Sameh Shoukry insisted, the Syrian government must assume the main responsibility for achieving this solution and implementing relevant commitments, while reaffirming the need for the countries concerned by the crisis and the international community to fulfill their obligations towards the Syrian people.
