Emergency meeting to assess the situation in Sabha

The Minister of Local Government in the Government of National Unity and Chairman of the Emergency and Rapid Response Committee, Badr Al-Din Al-Toumi, held an emergency meeting today, Sunday, in the presence of all members of the committee, including officials from the sectors and government agencies concerned with the response, to discuss the committee’s work plan regarding assessing the situation and following up on developments in the Sabha Municipality, to respond to the fluctuations in weather conditions that were accompanied by heavy rains, which led to the formation of ponds and swamps in the area.

According to the official page of the Ministry of Local Government on Facebook, the discussions focused on a set of measures and procedures taken by the committee to deal with the repercussions of the heavy rains, as well as coordinating response efforts, providing support and managing information to reduce the damage caused by these rains.

The meeting reviewed the efforts of the Ministry of Interior, the National Center for Meteorology, the Emergency Medicine and Support Department, the General Electricity Company, the Water and Sanitation Company, the National Safety Authority, the Local Call Center 1415, and the General Administration of Environmental Sanitation Affairs to deal with the repercussions of the rains in the Sabha Municipality.

During the meeting, the Minister of Local Government made a phone call to the Mayor of Sabha, Belhaj Ali, to closely monitor the situation in the Sabha Municipality and determine the necessary needs. The Mayor explained that the damage was concentrated in the Cairo and Tahrir districts, which witnessed the highest level of rainfall in the region.

During the meeting, the necessary needs of the National Meteorological Center were discussed to ensure its ability to conduct monitoring operations throughout Libya and provide accurate information about potential weather forecasts.

During the meeting, the availability of all the capabilities and resources necessary to deal with the repercussions of this crisis was also monitored and ensured by all parties concerned with the response, such as the Emergency Medicine and Support Center, the National Safety Authority, the General Company for Water and Sanitation, the General Electricity Company, and other government agencies.

The meeting was held in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the National Center of Meteorology, the Emergency Medicine and Support Authority, the General Electricity Company, the National Safety Authority, the General Company for Water and Sanitation, the Local Call Center (1415), the General Administration of Environmental Sanitation Affairs and Project Management.
