Shortly after 10 p.m., the emergency services were called to a seven-story building where a room on the lower floor was on fire.
– The fire did not spread further to apartments, but there was smoke development inside basically the entire house. We had to evacuate people via, among other things, ladder travel, says Josefin Lindblom, command operator at Stockholm’s fire brigade.
18 people, including several children, have been taken by ambulance to hospital with varying injuries. Some have injuries that are considered serious, according to the police.
РAbove all, they have smoke damage to varying degrees. I have no further information beyond that, says Lisa Thors̩n, press spokesperson for the Stockholm region.
Extensive smoke development
Within an hour the fire was out, but the emergency services remained for a couple of hours to ventilate the building.
The police have launched a preliminary investigation into aggravated arson.
