Ubisoft Mourns the Loss of Emile Morel, Creative Director of Beyond Good & Evil 2
It is with deep sadness that Ubisoft announces the passing of Emile Morel, the creative director behind the highly anticipated game Beyond Good & Evil 2. Colleagues and peers took to LinkedIn to share the news, expressing their shock and grief at the loss of a talented and beloved member of their team.
Morel, who was only 40 years old at the time of his death, had been a cherished member of the Ubisoft family for over 14 years. Starting as a game designer, he quickly rose through the ranks to become the creative director of Beyond Good & Evil 2. During his tenure at Ubisoft Montpellier, Morel also made significant contributions to the critically acclaimed titles Rayman Legends and Rayman Fiesta Run.

Gabrielle Shrager, lead writer at Lightspeed LA, reminisced about her time working with Morel, stating, “A cherished colleague for over a decade at Ubisoft Montpellier, we laughed and wept through good times and bad, and shipped a lot great games together. Emile was so very proud of Beyond Good and Evil 2, the Space Monkeys, and his teammates. He will be sorely missed.”
Greg Hermittant, who collaborated closely with Morel as the producer of Beyond Good & Evil 2, shared his tribute as well. “You’ve been such a great and kind partner during all these years at Ubisoft,” he expressed. “I’m grateful to have worked with you on so many projects. Even through the most difficult times, you always remained the caring and supportive person you were with your beautiful positive mind. But the most important is the wonderful moments we had. With no doubts, Rayman Legends is my best memory. I will miss our private jokes and imitations. You will be missed, and we will continue your work.”
Beyond Good & Evil 2, with Morel at the helm, has garnered immense excitement and anticipation from fans. His dedication and passion for the project were evident, and his untimely death is a significant loss for the gaming community as a whole. Ubisoft has not yet announced any plans for the future development of the game or who will take over Morel’s role.
