Émilie Dequenne reveals she has a “rare cancer”

The 42-year-old Belgian actress explains that she had emergency surgery at the end of August. The interpreter of Rosetta will be absent from the film sets in the coming months.

«I am determined to beat this rare cancer that has decided to turn my life upside down.» Émilie Dequenne announced her illness on her account Instagram Sunday October 22. The 42-year-old actress also reveals having suffered a “heavy emergency operation at the end of August”, which forces her to be “a little absent from the sets, promotions and previews».

«Since mid-July, I have been in Belgium and I had to carry out four (great) projects there until the end of the year. Unfortunately I was only able to shoot one, start a second, and I stopped there», she reports on the social network. The Belgian has not revealed the nature of her cancer. However, she assures “notnot wanting to let it happen» by the illness against which she “struggle every day“. Many relatives and colleagues of the actress were quick to react to her publication Instagram. «All our love, our admiration. And the prayers we send to you so that you feel strong and full of good vibes“, declared actor and comedian Axel Lutz. The actresses Hélène De Fougerolles and Géraldine Nakache as well as Miss France Sonia Rolland also showed their support.

Émilie Dequenne won the César for Best Supporting Actress in 2021 for her performance in The things we say, the things we do . The actress was revealed in the film Rosetta by the Dardenne brothers for which she received the Best Actress Award at Cannes in 1999.
