Around 18 billion manats (more than 10 billion US dollars) allocated from the state budget for the reconstruction of the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation.
As Day.Az reports with reference to Trend, this was stated by the special representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Agdam, Fizuli and Khojavend regions Emin Huseynov at the international conference within the framework of Climate Action Week in Baku.
“In the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, cities must not only be functional, but also reflect the principles of sustainability and inclusiveness. We often forget about this last aspect.
Agdam, once a vibrant center of trade and culture, is now a ruin that has been called the Hiroshima of the Caucasus. The same can be said about Fizuli and Khojavend, which also experienced significant destruction. However, we must view these territories not only through the lens of their past, but also through the potential they can unlock to create a brighter and more sustainable future.
The process of rebuilding these cities and areas requires careful planning and innovative approaches. “We’re not just restoring lost assets, we’re creating smart cities that are more adaptable and resilient to the impacts of climate change, and able to respond to future needs,” he said.
According to him, in Agdam, Fizuli and Khojavend, authorities are actively working with both national and international partners to implement advanced sustainable development measures, including green buildings and renewable energy sources.
“However, international support is very small; at the moment, about 18 billion manats (more than $10 billion) have been allocated from the state budget for reconstruction, infrastructure, mining and the creation of socio-economic institutions in these territories,” he noted.
Huseynov mentioned that cooperation continues with the private sector and civil society, which will play a key role in further financing the restoration of the liberated territories.
