The soprano visits her friend on Telecinco by surprise and sings several Christmas carols
Emma García received one of the best Christmas gifts she can remember last Sunday. The Basque presenter was surprised on the set of ‘Fiesta’ by her friend Ainhoa Arteta. Nobody was expecting the soprano, but she, with a microphone in hand, appeared on stage singing the ‘Hator-hator’ in front of Emma. The presenter was very excited.
“I know you were going to like it and move it,” said Arteta, while the presenter wiped away tears of emotion. “It is a very special moment for me,” Emma García confessed to him. Both have been united by a great friendship for a decade, but the latest events in the singer’s life have made this reunion more emotional.
Arteta acknowledged that he was about to die last year. He suffered a heart attack and several fingers had to be amputated: “I was on the brink of death. I will confess one thing: they gave me three hours to live. At one point, only my heart was working and the rest of my organs were dead,” explained the artist. In those definitive hours, her father was playing the organ in Ispaster. “I was allergic to penicillin and it was the only medication left to try that could save me. They called my father to ask him but he was in full function so they applied the medicine to me. And the miracle occurred, ”said Ainhoa Arteta. In the coming months, she anticipated, she will have to go through the operating room again for interventions derived from this situation, including those related to her amputations.

After reviewing that complicated health episode, Arteta and García recalled the moment in which they met. «It was in Ordizia, very pregnant me. They gave us our weight in cheese and cider. I was huge, I reached 91 kilos, ”commented the soprano jokingly. «I get a little less cheese», Emma García added, «it is that in Ordizia we are like that». Arteta remembered that such an amount of cheese was distributed among all her family.
And between confession and confession, the program was able to enjoy a great improvised interview. Although Christmas had to be said goodbye in style, so Arteta took the microphone and sang ‘Silent Night’. Emma García, very excited, appreciated her surprise: «She is wonderful and I have had to control myself a lot. She is more beautiful than ever ».
The Gipuzkoan soprano has the physical and moral strength to withstand the blows of bad luck, wherever they come from. The divorce of her fourth husband, Lieutenant Commander Matías Urrea, is another of the setbacks that she has had to overcome in recent times. Tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. she will perform at the Arriaga Theater, accompanied by the pianist Javier Carmena, with a purely Basque program. “She returns to her roots with a recital full of popular melodies,” announces the Bilbao coliseum. It will most likely be the starting point for a tour of recitals with Basque content through auditoriums in Europe and America. At this stage of her career, she is very interested in carrying out musical projects that allow her to demonstrate her mastery of the Basque language.
