The Greek champion completed her effort today in the second segment with 50/50 shots (25/25 and 25/25) and, combined with the 72/75 (24/25, 24/25 and 24/25) from yesterday’s first day of qualifications, secured her spot for the afternoon final (4/8, 16:30) in Shotoru, hoping also for a medal.
From the tragedy of the Tempi to the Olympic final
Her name may have been widely known in the shooting community, but most learned it on that fateful night of February 28, 2023, when the collision of two trains in the valley of Tempi cost the lives of 57 people.
Emmanuela Katzouraki was on the train heading to Thessaloniki and escaped with a minor injury to her leg, as she was in the rear car. The shock from the incredible tragedy was overwhelming, and the only way to forget those nightmarish moments was to dedicate herself again to shooting, continuing her effort to secure a ticket for Paris 2024.
She succeeded in August 2023 when she reached the final of skeet in Wrocław, Poland, and managed to gift our country its first medal in the event (bronze) while also securing a spot for the Olympic Games.
And a year later, Emmanuela not only traveled to Paris but is now seriously contending for an Olympic medal.
