Emmanouil Karalis finished in sixth place at the Diamond League in Lausanne, where Renaud Lavillenie made a remarkable return.

Just a few days after the 2024 Olympic Games, Emmanouil Karalis continued his season by participating in the Diamond League in Lausanne.

The Greek bronze medalist in pole vault cleared 5.82m and took sixth place. He cleared 5.52m and 5.72m on his first attempts and 5.82m on his second attempt, with three athletes tying with his height (Sondre Guttormsen, Curtis Marshall, John Obiena), but passing 5.82m on their first attempts while all failed at 5.92m.

A surprising return for Renaud Lavillenie, who at 37 years old came back after a serious injury in September 2023. The Frenchman did not qualify for the Olympic height (5.82m), finished in eighth place in Lausanne with 5.72m, but despite his advanced athletic age, he claims to be determined to reach a high level again.

The winner was none other than Mondo Duplantis, who cleared 6.15m on his third attempt and set a record in an outdoor event. The pole vault opened the program of the Diamond League in Lausanne with an event that did not take place in a stadium.
