by time news

Presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron recently spoke with our colleagues from Point to defend both its record and its program. According to the article published by the weekly on Tuesday, the outgoing president did not hesitate to point the finger at the anonymity of social networks.

According to him, conducive to misinformation and a certain form of violence, these social networks are problematic because they are omnipresent. This is why the President of the Republic affirmed that one should “not hesitate to envisage the dismantling of those who are in a situation of monopoly”. Chinese and American social networks are directly targeted: TikTok, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.

Digital sovereignty

Throughout this interview, Emmanuel Macron also deplored that no major social network is French or European. He reaffirmed his desire to give France the means to acquire its own digital sovereignty in the fields of mobile applications, the cloud, cybersecurity or virtual reality.

A project which, if it were to be undertaken, would not see the light of day under the potential new mandate of Emmanuel Macron. According to Phonandroid, it would take at least ten years to complete.
