Emmanuel Macron highlights a new unemployment insurance reform among his proposals on employment

by time news

Unsurprisingly, Emmanuel Macron did not fail to mention the theme of work during the major press conference presenting his program, Thursday March 17. The presidential candidate has said he wants to continue the direction of the reforms of the world of work taken five years ago during a possible second term and aim for the ” full employment “ within five years, thanks to reforms “promoting the return to work” of the unemployed, an objective according to him “reachable” given the fall in unemployment since 2017.

After recalling wanting to complete the pension reform, postponed to the start of 2020, and addressing the issue of vocational training, the outgoing president proposed a new reform of unemployment insurance. “We will also transform Pôle emploi by transforming it into France Travail, which is a profound change”he believes.

The Head of State aims to make the institution “a place where we support those who are destined to return to work in a much simpler way and where we put all the skills around the table” – either a kind of “one-stop shop” employment, even if Emmanuel Macron says he disapproves of this term.

The President also confirmed his wish to reform the active solidarity income (RSA) by conditioning the opening of this right to “the obligation to devote fifteen to twenty hours a week to an activity leading to professional integration”. He then states:

“I didn’t want the RSA for 18-25 year olds and I totally accept it because I consider that it is in a way satisfying us with the idea that we would deal with poverty or precariousness only through monetary benefits. Yes, we need monetary benefits, but on top of that we have to recognize everyone’s dignity, ask for a share of the effort for all those who can. »
